San Marzano Vini S.p.A. : Wine Sharing Beauty, one of the leading wine producer from the region of Puglia by Business News Japan

San Marzano is a leading wine producer from the region of Puglia, in the heel of Italy’s boot. The story began in 1962, when 19 vine growers from the village of San Marzano, whose families had farmed the land for generations, came together to follow their dream and founded Cantine San Marzano. Throughout the decades it has grown significantly and now attracts over 1,200 top-quality vine growers.

The vines are cultivated with the utmost respect for the natural rhythm of the vineyard.  The native grapes are grown in the beautiful Puglian countryside, where gentle sea breezes, the azure blue skies and sun-kissed vines produce ripe, juicy fruit bursting with flavour.

Using modern vinification techniques, San Marzano produces elegant and clean wines that pay homage to the ancient Puglian wine traditions. This fusion of time-honoured tradition, passion and contemporary craftsmanship, enables the production of wines with distinctive varietal characteristics that reflect the essence of the local terroir.

San Marzano and the Primitivo. San Marzano has played a central role in enhancing the value and profile of Primitivo grape producing world-class wines and icon labels. An example, among many, Sessantanni Primitivo di Manduria DOP, result of an intuition of the President, Mr. Francesco Cavallo, who was determined to create a new wine that could express the authenticity of the Primitivo grape in a new and modern interpretation.

Very recently, San Marzano Vini S.p.A. has been recognized and awarded FOUR GOLD Medal Award by Business News Japan.

Anniversario 62 Primitivo di Manduria DOP Riserva

Awarded Gold by Business News Japan

This wine celebrates the year San Marzano was established (1962). It expresses all the power and the richness of the fruit which was harvested a little bit overripe, hence increasing the complexity of the bouquet. A full-bodied wine with an extra-long finish, soft and rich in fine tannins.

Talò Primitivo di Manduria DOP

Awarded Gold by Business News Japan

The brand name “Talò” comes from a common family name in the village of San Marzano and is a way to collectively thank the farmers of San Marzano who, with their families, look after each vineyard as if it were their own garden.

Easygoing and food friendly, this Primitivo di Manduria DOP ages for 6 months oak barrels but still the fruit stands out with cherry and black plum. A long finish with soft tannins, vanilla and notes of spicy clove.

Il Pumo Primitivo Salento IGP

Awarded Gold by Business News Japan

The brand name “Il Pumo” refers to a decorative object that has adorned balconies and handrails of ancient stairways in Puglia for centuries. A symbol of nature’s abundance and generosity, made from the clay that once nourished the vines.

Primitivo is a vine that tells the story of Puglia in the world: an unmistakable intense ruby red with violet hues. Enveloping, complex fragrance.

Susco Susumaniello Salento IGP

Awarded Gold by Business News Japan

Susumaniello is a grape variety that has a withdrawn character. That is why it is called “Susco”, which translates into “shy” in the local dialect. The distinctive high-youthful yield of the vine drastically drops as the plant ages. Due to its low productivity when old, it had been set aside in the past but lately it has been revaluated for single variety wines. It gives wines a lively colour, complex bouquet and elegant tannins.
