Trastena Wines : Famous wine made of 100% organic raspberry

Trastena Wines by Business News Japan

Nestled in the mystic mountains of western Bulgaria, the legacy of raspberry wine-making began centuries ago at the St. Panteleymon Monastery. Revered by pilgrims who sought enlightenment—and the monks’ renowned raspberry wine—the monastery became a haven of spirit and taste. Although the monastery has long since faded, a proud stone cross now stands as a reminder of the sacred past.

Today, Trastena continues this legacy, cultivating 95 hectares of organic raspberries on the same land. By reviving the original recipe and applying nearly two decades of organic farming, Trastena has crafted a portfolio of distinctive wines, including 100% Organic Raspberry, Raspberry and Merlot, and Raspberry Rosé. Here’s a closer look at the passion and expertise that go into every bottle.

Behind the Label: A “Sexy Wine” Icon

  1. How do you choose the designs for your wine labels?
Answer: “We actually changed our label design multiple times because we were searching for that one true design. In 2016, we finally found our ‘soul label’ when our memorable raspberry lips logo came to life through a contest. Since then, each label resonates with this unique vibe—after all, we produce a sexy wine.”
  2. Crafting Unique Blends Through Passionate Techniques
Answer: “We see organic farming as our mission. Trastena wines are born from the love and care we invest in nature, creating a rich, memorable experience with every sip. We want our customers to experiment, be the center of attention, and enjoy the luxury of knowing exactly what they’re consuming.”
  3. Our Signature Wine and Its Distinctive Aroma
Answer: “Our signature wine is Trastena Raspberry Wine, made from 100% organic raspberries handpicked from our own plantation. The berries we use are the world’s most aromatic, and you can smell our wine from a social distance of two meters!”
  4. Awards and Recognition
    • Special Judge Award for “Best Food and Wine Pair” – Wine and Gourmet Festival, Plovdiv, 2015
    • 2nd Place for “Best Food and Wine Pair” – Wine and Gourmet Festival, Plovdiv, 2016

    • Gold Medal Award for Trastena Raspberry Wine – JAPAN Awards 2023

Giving Back and Innovating for the Future

Trastena actively supports community initiatives, from LGBTQ causes to women in Bulgarian business. In 2018 and 2019, they hosted a masked event celebrating the new vintage, drawing over 1,600 attendees. For International Women’s Day in 2019, they organized the first all-female comedy performance, filling one of Bulgaria’s largest venues in only 20 days.

Looking Ahead: New Wines and a Growing Legacy

At the end of 2022, Trastena opened their own winery, allowing greater creativity and production capacity. Early this year, they launched a cherry wine that sold out in under a month, and they plan to release two more flavors by Q1’s end. For Trastena, each new creation reaffirms their commitment to crafting wines that clients love, time and again.
