TENUTA SOLAR di BOLLA EGIDIO : Love and Passion in Winemaking from Generation to Generation

TENUTA SOLAR di BOLLA EGIDIO - Business News Japan

Bolla Egidio’s Solar Tenuta – A courtyard in the heart of Monteforte d’Alpone (Verona), a wine-growing village where one family looks after the vineyards with love and passion from generation to generation.

They only use grapes from their vineyards in the Soave zone’s classic “Val de l’acqua” region for winemaking. Only in this way can they guarantee the origin of 100 percent Garganega grapes from native and cru vines, as well as the product’s consistency, which is a key factor in all production.

The courtyard, or rather, the family winery, is where they produce wines, and the fruit storage is the house’s crown jewel. The Garganega grapes used to make Recioto are suspended from a net rather than spread out. This method provides a better ventilation and drying system for the grapes and demonstrates how important quality of the product and tradition are to them.

Awarded Gold by Business News Japan

LE CASELLE is an important wine in our DOC line and was awarded a gold medal in JAPAN AWARDS 2021.

The grapes are sorted in June, leaving a maximum of 7 bunches in the vineyard.

In September, the grapes are harvested in boxes and left to rest in the fruit cellar until mid-December, under constant supervision.

Destemming then takes place and maceration continues for 48-54 hours. The process continues with a soft pressing and an extreme fermentation (6-12°C) in steel tanks, where it remains to rest on its lees for 7 months.

Then comes the bottling, the product can be tasted only after a minimum of 8-9 months, in order to appreciate the aromas, flavours and colour. The peculiarity lies in its improvement with ageing.

The wine has a timid golden yellow colour and releases fruity aromas: peach, apricot, pineapple, kiwi pear, apple and white flowers.

Given its alcohol concentration (around 14.5) and acidity, it can be paired with foods such as: rice soup, ramen with meat and fish, onigiri, etc…

Interview of Mr. Andrea Bolla – Owner/Winemaker

Question 1: Do you already export to JAPAN ? If yes, where ? If no, what type of importers & distributors are you looking for in JAPAN ?

Answer : We do not currently export to Japan but we are looking for professionals for the medium-high catering sector.

Question 2: What is the most unique and qualitative part of your products, different from competitors ?

Answer : Our CLASSICO DOC and DOCG vineyards are located in a volcanic area, which is why the finished product acquires mineral aromas and citrus scents.

The work in the field is carried out in such a way as to reduce the number of treatments as much as possible and to keep the vineyard and the product healthy and less stressed.

The grapes are selected in the field and processed in four different ways, depending on the product we want to obtain.

Our peculiarity is that in spite of the different scents and colours of the wine, each type is made up of 100% Garganega, a vigorous vine that is very generous in its fruit.

The resulting products are:
White Veneto IGT #WHITE
Soave Classico DOC LE BANCOLE
Soave Classico DOC LE CASELLE
Veneto Passito IGT #SWEET
Recioto di Soave Classico DOCG EL RE’

Question 3: When did you start to export your brand worldwide, and what is your development plan for the next years ?

Answer : Our development plan for the next few years is to increasingly refine our product, in which we deeply believe, trying to make it known and appreciated throughout the world by participating in competitions, creating events, etc..
