Vigna Petrussa is a family-run winery with 8 hectares of land in one of the best wine-making corners within the cru area of “Colli Orientali del Friuli” (North-East of Italy). The land is surrounded by sedimentary rock (ponka) hills, crossed by the Judrio River and swept from time to time by strong northern winds. The natural amphitheater rich in minerals with the availability of water creates the perfect environment for vines to grow whilst the high excursion of temperature and the cold winds provide our grapes with unique perfumes, flavors and colors.
Vigna Petrussa make wines with great respect for the environment and theirlands (Vigna Petrussa were awarded the SQNPI environmentally friendly wines certification), They patiently work alongside the rhythms of nature and they follow the traditional wine making process which puts the quality of their grapes at the heart of our vinification. As a result,Vigna Petrussa wines are able to tell the story of their lands and they show the perfumes, flavors and colors of our grapes above, skilfully brought out, softened and honed through selection, vinification and ageing in barrels. This is us: Love, Passion and Strong Character, just like the wines we make.
“This is one of Italy’s best and most under the radar estates, inspired by owner Hilde Petrussa’s great passion for her craft”, this is how Ian d’Agata described us on Vinous.com.
Very recently, Vigna Petrussa has joined JAPAN Awards 2021 and won a GOLD and a SILVER Medal Award in this prestigious competition:

Question 1: Do you already export to JAPAN ? If yes, where ? If no, what type of importers & distributors are you looking for in JAPAN ? We do not currently export in Japan. We focus on the production of a relatively small quantity of high quality wines and we have been traditionally serving high end restaurants and relevant distributors in Europe and the USA. For our entrance in Japan we would like to do the same so we’re looking for importers and distributors servicing high end Restaurants/bars/private clientele.
Question 2: What is the most unique and qualitative part of your products, different from competitors ?
I would say that the following 3 points provide a good understanding of how we differentiate ourselves from (at least some of ) the competition: 1) Great care about our nature, our lands and our vines – we believe that the care of nature translates in higher quality grapes which will then turn into higher quality wines 2) We have been making wine in the same place since 1850; We care about our traditions and we make wines following the same old wise rules combined with the use of modern and efficient equipment. 3) This is the third generation of female led wine business. Our wines are the reflection of what makes many feminine attributes so important in everyday life: the kindness of our gentle love, the warmth of our passions and the ability to surprise you with our beauty, our elegance and our strengths. All these we endeavor to pour in our wines.
Question 3: When did you start to export your brand worldwide, and what is your development plan for the next years ?
We’ve been exporting in continental Europe for many years now; we started around the beginning of the year 2000. With the arrival of the younger generations and the ease of speaking foreign languages we have started exporting in the USA a few years ago and we are currently consolidating our export to North America. Only recently we have invested in exporting to Asia (mainly China, HK and Singapore) and we are extremely excited to have an opportunity to arrive to Japan (I – Francesca – have travelled to Japan for my honeymoon and have very special memories of your country).
