Romano Winery: The Sweet Taste of Victory

Romano Vineyard and Winery Business News Japan

The ROMAN wine house takes shape in the mid-1980s, from the entrepreneurial will of the Romano family, dedicated for generations to the cultivation of vineyards and the transformation of grapes into fine wine. The wine history of the family dates back at least two centuries ago, the first official documents dating back to 1890, with formal acts of acquisition of the first vineyards.

When the future spouses Francesca and Lorenzo Romano received in dowry from their father Angelo in 1890 a conspicuous sum in money and a modest vineyard in the area upstream of the municipality of Borgetto, in the province of Palermo, with which they began a thriving oenological activity, which today continues with the innovative plant of C.da Ramotta and the vineyards of C.da Cambuca, territory of the DOC Alcamo and Monreale.

The vineyards are located upstream of Lake Poma, a very suitable wine area, and have been given the DOC designation, specifically “Monreale” and “Alcamo”. Therefore the wines produced by our winery can boast the title “VINO DOC MONREALE” and “VINO DOC ALCAMO”, as well as the name “TERRE SICILIANE IGP”

The vineyards have undergone important revision and restructuring interventions. Recently, in fact, they have been uprooted and replanted according to the most suitable agronomic techniques for the production of quality grapes. The number of plants per hectare has been increased, but the number of buds per hectare has been reduced so as to obtain valuable grapes.

The varieties grafted on “SICILIA” type rootstocks are the indigenous Catarratto, Grecanico, and Moscato for the whites; Perricone, Nero d’Avola, Nerello Mascalese and Mamertino for reds; but also the international varieties have been noticed, introducing the Viognier, the Pinot Grigio, the Sauvignon Blanc and the Traminer for the whites, while for the red berried grapes the Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Marselan have been grafted.

All these varieties are cultivated with more than a century of knowledge and transformed with the best oenological techniques managed by an expert hand, giving rise to still, pleasant wines, with a harmony of aromas and aromas rarely comparable.
