Japan’s affinity for quality wines and beverages has grown exponentially in recent years, making it an attractive market for global distributors and importers. Among the prominent players, Vignobles Gabriel & Co stands out for its exceptional wines that have garnered numerous prestigious awards. Let’s dive into their history, their remarkable product line, and their triumphs at the esteemed Japan Awards 2023.
Vignobles Gabriel & Co: A Legacy of Passion and Dedication
The roots of Vignobles Gabriel & Co trace back to 1904 when Gabriel Bruneteau founded the Domaine du Grand Moulin at Saint Aubin de Blaye, situated 50 kilometers north of Bordeaux amidst the Blaye vineyards. Gabriel’s unwavering passion for wine and people guided his journey. In 1921, he founded his business, which eventually evolved into Vignobles Gabriel & Co. Over time, the estate experienced changes, but four generations later, it renewed its original spirit under the ownership of Jean-François Réaud in 1985.
Expansion and Diversification: A Journey of Growth
Jean-François Réaud, the great-great-grandson of Gabriel Bruneteau, embarked on an impressive project to reorganize and modernize the vineyard. The estate, now known as Château Le Grand Moulin, expanded to cover 25 hectares by the late 1990s. In 2011, Jean-François Réaud used the family name of Château Les Aubiers to convert 25 hectares into organic farming. Today, Château Les Aubiers encompasses 44 hectares of organic vineyards, including tenant farms.
Not content with this achievement, Jean-François Réaud continued to grow his wine empire. In 2011, he increased the surface area of Château Le Grand Moulin, bringing it to an impressive 81 hectares, cultivated using conventional farming methods. In 2015, he acquired the remarkable Château Haut Sociondo, a 15.5-hectare treasure vineyard in Blaye, that had been a partner of Vignobles Gabriel & Co since 2012.
Vignobles Gabriel & Co: Uniting the Right Bank
As demand for their wines soared, Jean-François Réaud recognized the importance of collaboration in the wine industry. To strengthen the reputation of Right Bank wines, he joined forces with neighboring estates, giving birth to Vignobles Gabriel & Co. This collective of winegrowers, united by a charter of commitments, is dedicated to ethical wine production and promotion of the Right Bank and its treasures.
Vignobles Gabriel & Co‘s commitment to quality and ethical practices has been acknowledged and celebrated worldwide . Notably, their exceptional wines have earned them 24 Gold Medal Awards and 2 Silver Medal Awards in Japan Awards 2023, hosted by the esteemed BusinessNewsJapan.
