Aurora Spirit, located at 69°North, deep within the Polar Circle, creates handcrafted spirits using arctic ingredients. The setting is extremely spectacular, surrounded by the Lyngen Alps, adjacent fjords, and with views of the arctic wildness and Northern Lights. As if the surroundings weren’t enough, the distillery’s operations are as fascinating. It was created on the site of a decommissioned NATO Cold War base, and its whisky is aged in a network of underground tunnels and bunkers.
The Bivrost brand is used to bottle the distillery’s spirits. Bivrost is based on 1000-year-old Viking mythology about the northern lights, a word that dates back to Old Norse. The northern lights were given the term “bivrost” by the ancient Vikings, which means “shaking road” in English. They believed the northern light was a gods’ highway between Midgard and Asgard.
